Joong Gun Pattern

Joong Gun -(32 moves, left foot returns)  Named after the patriot Ahn Joong-Gun who assinated Hiro-Bumi Ito, the first japenese governor-general of Korea, known as the man who played the leading part in the Korea-Japan merger. There are 32 moves in this pattern to represent Mr. Ahn's age when he was executed at Lui-Shung prison (1910).

1) Turn 90 degrees to the left and left ridge hand block in a left back stance.
2) Left front kick.
3) Step forward and right high palm heel in a right rear stance.
4) Turn 180 degrees to the right and right ridge hand block in a right back stance.
5) Right front kick.
6) Step forward and left high palm heel block in a left cat stance.
7) Turn 90 degrees to the left and double knife hand block in a left back stance.
8) Shift the left foot to a front stance and right high elbow strike.
9) Step forward and double knife hand block in a right back stance.
10) Shift the right foot to a right front stance and left high elbow strike.
11) Step forward and twin vertical punch in a left front stance.
12) Step forward and twin up-set punch in a right front stance, YELL.
13) Turn 180 degrees to the left and X-block high in a left front stance.
14) Turn 90 degrees to the left and left high backfist in a left back stance.
15) Stay in a back stance and left wrist release.
16) Shift forward and right face punch in a left front stance.
17) Step L foot to R foot, turn 180 degrees to right and R high backfist in a R back stance.
18) Stay in a back stance and right wrist release.
19) Shift forward and left face punch in a right front stance.
20) Step R foot to L foot, turn 90 degrees to the left and double inner forearm block in a left front stance.
21) Shift left foot to a left back stance and left punch.
22) Right turning side kick.
23) Step forward and double inner forearm block in a right front stance.
24) Shift right foot into a right back stance and right punch.
25) Left turning side kick.
26) Step forward and double guarding block in a left back stance.
27) Shift forward and double palm heel block in a left front stance.
28) Step forward and double guarding block in a right back stance.
29) Shift forward and double palm heel block in a right front stance.
30) Bring L foot to R foot, turn 90 degrees to the L and R hook punch in a closed stance.
31) Step forward and double hooking block in a right back stance.
32) Bring right foot to left foot, turn 180 degrees to the left and double hooking block in a left back stance, YELL.

 

Toi-Gye Pattern

Definition: The pen name of the noted scholar Yi Hwang (16th century), an authority on neo-confucianism. The 37 movements of this pattern refer to his birthplace on the 47th degree lattitude, the diagram (+) represents "scholar".

Toi-Gye - (37 moves, Right foot returns) Closed "B" ready position.

1) Turn 90 degrees to the left and left inner forearm block in a left back stance.
2) Shift forward and right reverse palm heel strike in a left front stance.
3) Bring the left foot to the right foot in a closed stance 90 degrees to the right, right backfist and left low block simultaneously.
4) Turn 90 degrees to the right and right inner forearm block in a right back stance.
5) Shift forward and left reverse palm heel strike in a right front stance-
6) Bring the right foot to the left foot in a closed stance 90 degrees to the left, left backfist and right low block simultaneously.
7) Step forward and low X-block in a left front stance.
8) Without stepping, high twin vertical punch.
9) Right front kick.
10) Land forward and right solar plexus punch in a right front stance.
11) Without stepping, left solar plexus punch.
12) Bring the left foot to the right foot, 90 degrees to the left in a closed stance, and bring both fists to the hips simultaneously.
13) Move forward with the right foot and twin high inner forearm block in a middle stance.
14) Turn 180 degrees with the left foot and twin high inner forearm block in a middle stance.
15) Turn 180 degrees with the left foot and twin high inner forearm block in a middle stance.
16) Turn 180 degrees with the right foot and twin high inner forearm block in a middle stance.
17) Turn 180 degrees with the left foot and twin high inner forearm block in a middle stance.
18) Turn 180 degrees with the left foot and twin high inner forearm block in a middle stance.
19) Bring R foot to L foot and move forward and low double inner forearm block in a left back stance.
20) Shift forward and twin head grab in a left front stance.
21) Right knee strike, YELL.
22) Bring R foot to L foot turn 180 degrees to the L and double knife hand block in a L back stance.
23) Left front kick.
24) Land forward and left spear hand strike high in a left front stance.

28) Step back 180 degrees and left low block and right backfist simultaneously in a left back stance.
29) Jump 45 degrees to the left and low X-block low in a right rear stance.
30) Move 45 degrees to the right and double inner forearm block in a right front stance.
31) Turn 27 degrees to the left and double knife hand block in a left back stance.
32) Shift forward and right scoop block in a left front stance.
33) Bring L  foot to R foot,turn 180 degrees to R and double knife hand block low in a R back stance.
34) Shift forward and left scoop block in a right front stance.
